Happy Earth Day! Let’s take a moment to discuss how to recycle contact lenses and their packaging properly.
CAN CONTACT LENSES BE RECYCLED IN THE REGULAR RECYCLING SYSTEM?
No! If you put your contact lenses and their plastic blister packs in the regular municipal recycling system, they often get filtered out of recycling facilities due to their small size. The cardboard boxes the contacts come in, however, CAN go through the regular municipal recycling system.
WHAT’S THE PROPER WAY TO RECYCLE CONTACT LENSES AND THEIR PACKAGING?
To keep this waste out of the landfills, Bausch + Lomb and TerraCycle developed the ONE by ONE contact lens recycling program. Just collect your contact lenses, top foils, and plastic blister packs (any brand is accepted) and take them to one of the eye care centers listed here.
